MAHWAH, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's basketball team went to double-overtime in today's New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match-up against Ramapo College on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Both teams were neck and neck throughout the entire game, ending tied at halftime and the final buzzer.
Gothic Knight (7-8, 6-9 NJAC) sophomore captain
Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) put in the first point for NJCU following an immediate Ramapo (9-9, 8-6 NJAC) team technical. Rodriguez and freshman
Liyah Allen (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) put in the remainder of the points for the first quarter, ending down 12-11. One minute in, junior captain
Laney Fox (Parkland, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) made two good free throws after a Ramapo foul. The Roadrunners were up by seven points when Rodriguez made a jumper, leaving NJCU down 21-14. Rodriguez, Fox, freshman

Tahirah Kelley (Linden, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and junior
Jimmirah Johnson (Prospect Park, N.J./International) all made baskets in the remainder of the quarter, tying up the game 27-27 by halftime.
A huge three-point shot by Rodriguez started the new half – Ramapo quickly responded with a jumper. Shots by Allen, Johnson, Rodriguez and Fox put NJCU up by 12 points, the largest lead of the game. Junior
Jada Camacho (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) put in her first jumper of the day in the last few minutes, leaving the Green and Gold in the lead 46-38 going into the fourth quarter. Freshman
Olivia Wooten (East Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) made a three-point shot to tip-off the quarter, in addition to two made free throws later on. Johnson made a jumper in the final three minutes, but the Roadrunners were not backing down. The fourth quarter ended 53-53, sending the game into the first overtime.
Ramapo put in the first few points but Allen followed with two jumpers and a single free throw. Allen was the lone scorer for NJCU during the first overtime. Now tied 58-58, the teams went into the second overtime period. Rodriguez put in two jumpers and two free throw shots, again, a lone scorer for the period. Unfortunately, Ramapo gained late momentum and pulled away in the lead, finishing off the game 72-64.
Highlights:
- Rodriguez led with a game-high 26 points, followed by Allen with 13, Fox with nine, Johnson and Wooten with five.
- Johnson ended with a team-high 13 rebounds and two blocks.
- Rodriguez ended with a career-high 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals. It was her fifth double-double of the season and her career, but the first with double-digit rebounds.
- Allen had nine rebounds; Fox followed with seven rebounds, three assists and a single steal.
