PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its weekly award winners today, Monday, March 14, for this past week and freshman
Matt Kaliske (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) of the New Jersey City University baseball team was selected as the NJAC Rookie of the Week.
Earning the award for the first time in his career, Kaliske had his coming out party for the Gothic Knights as he led the squad to a 2-1 record this past week down in Florida. The rookie first baseman slashed .538/.538/.571 with a 1.109 OPS and added team highs in hits (7), RBI (6), total bases (7) and putouts (24). He also posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage while starting all three games.
His week was highlighted in the 19-9 drubbing of Ohio Northern University on Tuesday, March 8, as he raked – Kaliske went 4-for-5 with a whopping five RBI, scored three runs, drew a walk and stole a base on his only attempt. Then, in the Wednesday, March 9, 12-6 romp over the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, Kaliske was 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored.
Kaliske and the Gothic Knights return to the diamond on Thursday afternoon, March 17, at 4:00 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa., against Moravian College.
