BALTIMORE — The New Jersey City University women's tennis team faced its third consecutive Division I opponent on Friday evening, March 18, as the Gothic Knights dropped one to Loyola University-Maryland by a score of 6-1. NJCU won matches at third doubles and second singles on the night, however at the Division I level, doubles combines for one best-of-three point to the overall, seven-point match score.
Jersey City (1-3) started off with a pair of losses in doubles play at first and second before junior
Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) and co-captain graduate student
Brittany Waugh (Stevenson Ranch, Calif./West Ranch) teamed up at third doubles. The pair made quick work for their Division I opposition, winning 6-2.
With the Green and Gold trailing 1-0 overall heading into singles play, the hosting Greyhounds (4-1) won five straight matches to take the 6-0 lead. However, Clamor continued her strong play from doubles and carried it over to singles play, picking up a hard-fought three-set victory at second singles. After dropping the first set in a 7-6 tiebreak, Clamor won set number to 6-4. Then, playing a first-to-10, win-by-two points tiebreaker in the third "set," Clamor fought all the way to a 12-10 win to take the match.
Some other strong play in singles came at #1, where junior co-captain

Mila Gligorov (Milan, Italy/Collegio San Carlo) combined to take seven games off their opponents at third and fourth singles, respectively, as well.
