March 21, 2022

PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its weekly baseball award winners for this past week today, Monday, March 21, and the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights collected a pair of honors. Hot-hitting senior center fielder Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) was named NJAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while freshman first baseman Matt Kaliske (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) was selected as the NJAC's Rookie of the Week for the second straight time.

The Gothic Knights went 2-2 this past week, outscoring their opponents 43-32 overall. Voss was on fire all week long and is currently riding a five-game hitting streak, as well as a 13-game on-base streak (dating back to last season). Voss finished the four-game span with a whopping .733 batting average (11-for-15), including seven extra-base hits (two doubles, a triple, two home runs) after nearly hitting for the cycle on both Friday and Saturday, March 18-19. Voss notched an astounding 12 RBI and scored 10 runs of his own – he also drew four walks, was hit by a pitch and was 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. He was also a perfect 13-for-13 in fielding chances.

In the 7-6 loss on Thursday, March 17, at Moravian College, the senior went 2-for-3 with four RBI, a home run, a walk, a stolen base, was hit by a pitch and scored once. In Friday's 20-5 mashing at home of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, he was 3-for-4 with two RBI, a double, a triple, a walk, a sacrifice fly and scored four runs. In the 12-4 win at Manhattanville College on Saturday, Voss was a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, a home run, a walk, a stolen base and scored four times. Finally, in the 16-5 loss on Sunday, March 20, at Alvernia University, Voss was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, a double, a walk and one run.

Kaliske, having won back-to-back NJAC Rookie of the Week honors now, batted .500 (8-for-16) during the Green and Gold's four-game span this past week. He notched a pair of doubles, his first-career home run, was hit by a pitch and scored three times – he was also .967 in the field, registering just one error on 30 chances. Riding a six-game on-base streak at the moment, Kaliske got things started in Thursday's 7-6 loss at the Greyhounds by going 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run. Then, in Friday's drubbing of St. Joe's-Brooklyn, Kaliske was 2-for-4 with three RBI, hit his first-career collegiate home run and scored twice. In Saturday's 12-4 win over the Valiants, the freshman was again 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Kaliske maintained his on-base streak in Sunday's loss at the Golden Wolves by reaching safely via a hit-by-pitch in the top of the second.
