WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The New Jersey City University men's and women's track and field squads opened up their 2022 outdoor seasons on Saturday, March 26, at the 26th annual Monmouth University Opener. Junior
Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) led the way with a personal best time in the men's 5000m at 16:33.14.
On the women's side, five Gothic Knights competed on Saturday. Senior
Annaliza Lagman (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) posted a 32.57 in the 200m dash – a personal record – while junior
Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) and sophomore
Jackeline Lopez (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) competed in the 800m with times of 2:52.21 and 2:57.18, respectively. Junior Aram Diouf competed in two field events. She posted a leap of 4.24m in the long jump, while also registering a throw of 28.95m in the javelin. Finally, freshman
Evie Tahmazian (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) made her collegiate debut and competed in the shot put, notching a throw of 8.42m.
On the men's side, 11 members of the Jersey City squad competed. Highlighting those performances was junior Tyniel Jackson. The jumper competed in the long jump and triple jump, notching leaps of 5.96m and 12.52m, respectively. Additionally, junior
Roger Campbell (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) Pred in the 200m dash with a time of 23.11, while five runners competed in the 1500m event, led by sophomore
Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and his time of 4:23.69. Finally, as mentioned, Tlatelpa was a standout in the 5000m event.
