MADISON, N.J. — The New Jersey City University baseball team dropped a non-conference clash with FDU-Florham on the road by a score of 16-2 this afternoon, Tuesday, March 29, however senior center fielder
Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) extended his on-base streak to 18 consecutive games, while junior third baseman
Jimmy Vizzoni (Hamilton, N.J./Trenton Catholic) collected a pair of extra-base hits in defeat.
The NJCU (7-9) arms had a tough day on the mound as six pitchers allowed a combined 15 earned runs. Junior right-hander
Berto Reyes (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) was a bright spot on the bump, however, as the first-year Gothic Knight had his strongest outing in a Green and Gold uniform. A transfer from Union County College, Reyes entered in the fifth inning and proceeded to toss 3.0 scoreless innings, while striking out two and did not allow a hit.
As mentioned, Voss extended his on-base streak to 18 straight (dating back to late-last season) after going 2-for-4 with the lumber today against the Devils (14-5), also drawing a walk — additionally, he is riding a 10-game hitting streak. Vizzoni was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles on the afternoon, as well.
After a scoreless top half, FDU started off the day with seven runs in the bottom of the first. NJCU would get one back in the top of the second. With two outs and a runner on second, sophomore second baseman
Ali Pompey (Belle Meade, N.J./Trenton Catholic) collected the only RBI on the day for the Gothic Knights with a one-run single up the middle to score senior catcher
Mitchell Leslie (Gibbstown, N.J./Gloucester Tech).
Jersey City's other run came in the top of the seventh when, behind by a large deficit, sophomore shortstop
Justin Moreno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Trenton Catholic) struck out swinging, but used his speed to reach first safely on a wild pitch dropped third strike. With two outs, Voss singled to move Moreno to third. In the next at-bat, Vizzoni hit a hard one to second but it was mishandled, allowing Moreno to score on the error.

Gerrity Athletic Complex on Thursday afternoon, March 31, for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match-up with Saint Elizabeth University. It is their final tune-up before New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play begins this weekend.
