Etienne Takes First in 400m, Second in 200m; Sisk PRs in 1500m as Track Competes at TCNJ

EWING, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field squads sent a contingent of competitors down to the state capital today, Saturday, April 2. The Gothic Knights had a batch of top finishes and personal records, however senior Dave Etienne (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) once again shined in the 200m and 400m, placing second and first, respectively.

Etienne represented the men well in the two sprint events. He started out with a personal-record-tying 49.34 in the 400m to outpace all 31 other runners in the event. Then, Etienne clocked in at 23.38 in the 200m to place ahead of all but one of his 44 other competitors. Junior Roger Campbell (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) also stood out in the men's 200m event has he took home 10th place with a personal-record-tying time of 23.26.

The men's 1,500m event was another place where the Gothic Knights saw some success. Sophomore Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) placed 11th overall out of 47 total runners with a personal-record time of 4:16.65. Junior Adnan Kpodo (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) tied his PR in the event and placed 28th with a time of 4:30.20. Placing 23rd was junior Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter), who finished just shy of his PR with a time of 4:26.65. He also excelled in the 800m race and tied his PR with a time of 2:10.09 to place 20th out of 42 runners.

On the women's side of things, junior Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) tied her personal record with a time of 2:35.15 in the 800m to place 18th out of 35 runners. Freshman Evie Tahmazian (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) made her debut in the women's discus throw and placed 17th with a toss of 23.45m.

Jersey City returns to action next weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, for the New Captains Classic & Combined Events. The meet will be hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
