Men's Golf Places Fourth at Atlantic East Championship as Stoker Earns Second Team All-Conference

MALVERN, Pa. — The New Jersey City University men's golf team competed at the Atlantic East Conference Championship at White Manor Country Club over the weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 22-23. The Gothic Knights finished fourth as a team, while freshman Evan Stoker (Clinton, N.J./Voorhees) led NJCU with a tie for eighth place to earn Second Team All-Conference accolades.

Individually, there was a tie between a pair of Cabrini University golfers for first place, but the tiebreaker (lower second round score) went to eventual champion Sean Caspar of the Cavalier (78-76, 154). Stoker, as mentioned, was the Gothic Knights top finisher. The rookie tied for eighth overall out of 30 golfers to pick up Second Team All-Atlantic East honors. He shot a 78 in round one and an 83 in round two to finish with a 36-hole score of 161.

Cabrini also claimed the team title (316-305, 621), while NJCU shot a two-round total of 763 (340-333), one stroke ahead of fifth-place Marymount University and five strokes back of third-place Neumann University.

Freshman Tamuda Kaseke (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. John's College) missed out on a top 10 finish by five strokes and finished the weekend with a 36-hole total of 167 (85-82) to tie for 13th. Sophomore Taj Piontkowski (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) tied for 15th after shooting an 85 in tounf two to finished with a 172 (87-85). Senior Josh Marseille (Linden, N.J./The Wardlaw+Hartridge School) improved on his round one score by 10 strokes with an 83 and tied for 21st at 176. Fellow senior Zachary Ware (Fort Lee, N.J./Bergen Community College) closed out the bunch with a two-day total of 188 (90-98) to tie for 27th.
