Track & Field Sees Success in Final Tune-up Prior to NJACs

April 30, 2022

EWING, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field teams competed in one last meet on Friday and Saturday, April 29-30 — the Lions Outdoor Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey — in preparation for the 2022 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Outdoor Championships, which take place next weekend at the same site. NJCU had some strong performances, including season-best times and personal records.

On the men's side, senior Roger Campbell (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) shined in the 100 meter-dash and placed ninth overall out of the 77-person field with a personal-record time of 11.21, which qualifies him for the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Championships in mid-May. His time also ties for the team's fastest of the season, sharing the top spot with senior co-captain Dave Etienne (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson). Campbell's time was faster than 21 Division I and II runners.

Etienne himself continued to improve upon his ECAC-qualifying 200 meter-dash time as he turned in NJCU's season-best time in the event. The Jersey City native placed sixth overall out of 59 runners with a time of 22.26, ahead of 14 Division I and II competitors. Fellow co-captain, sophomore Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) also continued to improve upon his personal record and ECAC-qualyfing time in the 800 meter event with a time of 1:57.10 to place 14th out of 92 runners. His finish was better than 23 Division I and II competitors.

On the women's end, junior Lamya Young (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) missed out on her 100m PR by just 0.07 seconds. She notched a time of 13.30 to place 21st out of 41 runners, including 11 Division II competitors. She was joined by junior Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter), who recorded a personal best time of 28.13 in the 200m event, which was NJCU's fasted time this outdoor season. That was fast enough to cross the finish line ahead of seven Division I and II runners.
