GLASSBORO, N.J. – The New Jersey City University softball team faced off with New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) foe #21-ranked
(National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Rowan University for a road doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, April 30. Sophomore
Sidnie Dabbadie (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) tossed a game-one gem for the Gothic Knights in the 3-0 loss, while her classmate
Emily Tunney (Mays Landing, N.J./Oak Crest) went 2-for-3 with a double in game two's 8-0 defeat.
Game 1: Rowan 3, NJCU 0
As mentioned, Dabbadie got the nod in the circle for Jersey City (9-26, 1-17 NJAC) and put together a very formidable performance against the hosting Profs (30-8, 15-3 NJAC). The righthander tossed 6.0 innings in the complete game, allowing just two earned runs on five hits in 6.0 innings, striking out three. That was the highlight for the Gothic Knights in this one, as they recorded just one hit in the seven-inning contest.
Game 2: Rowan 8, NJCU 0 (6 innings)
Sophomore
Sam Miller (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) started for NJCU in game two and also had a strong performance. After Rowan's four-run first, the righthander tossed four-straight scoreless innings from the second to fifth, allowing just three hits over that span. However, the Profs scored four more in the bottom of the sixth to close out the game.
Tunney was the most successful with the bat in her hands for Jersey City, reaching on an infield single to load the bases in the top of the fourth – the Gothic Knights best offensive opportunity in this one – as well as a double in the top of the sixth. She tried to put NJCU on the board in the next at-bat when freshman
Mya Villanueva (Jersey City, N.J./McNair Academic) singled up the middle, but she was thrown out trying to score.
