Both Track & Field Teams Sit in First After Day One of ECACs

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field squads competed in day one of the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Outdoor Championships on Wednesday, May 18, and the Gothic Knights had some very strong performances.

On the men's side, junior Tyneil Jackson (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) placed third in the triple jump and fourth in the javelin in his two events of the day. The men's 4x400m relay placed first overall with a time of 3:40.35 and was made up of seniors Roger Campbell (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) and Dave Etienne (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson), as well as junior Adnan Kpodo (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) and sophomore Jake Sisk (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway). The final two events of the day were the distance races and junior Jaime Tlatelpa (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) placed second in the 10,000m event, while placing third in the 5,000m event. Senior Jose Recinos (Union City, N.J./Union City) was right behind him in the 5k, placing fourth, while Fahim Chowdhury (Bayonne, N.J./County Prep) came in third in the 10k. Graduate student Muhammed Jawneh (South River, N.J./South River) also placed third in the men's steeplechase.

On the women's side, junior Shantel Worrell (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) PRed in the hammer throw with a distance of 36.19m to place fifth, while freshman Evie Tahmazian (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) came in eighth in the same event, as well. Junior Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial) picked up her first-career javelin throw win, placing first and taking home the title. On the track, the women's 4x400 relay — made up of freshmen Ashley Adames (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) and Nyla Boyd (Thomson, Ga./Thomson), as well as sophomore Jackeline Lopez (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) and junior Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) — placed first in their event. Senior April Gutierrez (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) also placed first in the 5,000m race and second in the 10,000m event.
