PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its 2021-22 Men's Tennis All-Conference teams today, Tuesday, May 3, and the New Jersey City University men's tennis squad saw its top two players earn First Team accolades in both singles and doubles for the second consecutive season.
Senior co-captain
Theo Bourghelle (Lesquin, France/LaSalle Lille), NJCU's first CoSIDA Academic All-America honoree (Third Team) since 2013 — he earned the recognition after last season — was once again named a First Team All-NJAC performer in both singles and doubles. After helping lead the Gothic Knights to the 2021 NJAC East Division championship and being named conference Player of the Year, as well as NJCU's Most Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year, the native of France followed up with a dominate 2021-22 campaign, which ended in a runner-up finish for Jersey City in the NJAC East Division.
This season, Bourghelle helped the Gothic Knights to a 6-2 overall record in Division III play, racking up a perfect 8-0 record in singles play, primarily at #2. He also primarily paired with his fellow First Team selection, sophomore
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine), at #1 doubles and the duo put together a 5-2 record as the top pair (Bourghelle was 6-2).
As mentioned, Teynie was also a First Team honoree for the second-straight year in both singles and doubles. The Green and Gold's top player this season, Teynie posted a 3-1 record at #1 singles against Division I competition in 2021-22 and was 5-2 at #1 against Division III foes. Last season, he was selected as the NJAC East Rookie of the Year, as well as NJCU's Male Newcomer of the Year. Teynie has also racked up four weekly NJAC honors over his career, including one Player of the Week nod this season.

The Gothic Knights regular-season has come to a close with their NJAC East Runner-Up finish. However, things are not officially over as NJCU is eligible for the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tennis Championship, which are scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 14, at a to-be-determined location. The NCAA selects its Division III Championship field on Monday, May 9, and immediately after, the ECAC's selection committee will meet and select its own Championship participants — the Green and Gold hope to be among them.
