Voss, Hernandez Pick up 2022 Division III All-ECAC Honors

June 07, 2022

DANBURY, Conn. — The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) released its 2022 Division III Baseball All-ECAC Team and award winners this morning, Tuesday, June 7. The New Jersey City University baseball program had a pair of honorees among the All-ECAC Team in senior centerfielder Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and junior rightfielder/pitcher Josh Hernandez (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community).

For Hernandez, the Middlesex County College transfer was a huge contributor for the Gothic Knights in his first season with the Green and Gold. The Florida native adds this accolade to his Honorable Mention All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) nod from just about a month ago. Hernandez came on strong late in the season as a force out of the bullpen and led Jersey City with a 0.64 ERA over eight appearances and 14.0 innings on the mound. He struck out 11 batters and picked up three saves, which tied for seventh in the NJAC at regular-season's end. With the lumber, the righthander closed out the campaign with a .299 average and a .917 OPS, tied for first with Voss in walks (24) and was behind him in runs (45) and home runs (5). Hernandez finished third on NJCU in hits (43), fourth in RBI (29) and tied for fourth in doubles (10) — he spent the majority of the season as the team's leadoff hitter.

Voss adds this recognition to his already-stacked list of honors this postseason. He was recently named All-Region First Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Second Team by D3baseball.com and joined Hernandez as an All-NJAC selection, garnering First Team honors — NJCU's first since 2008. A two-time First Team CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District selection last year and this year, Voss now awaits his chances at being named to the Academic All-America team, which is released tomorrow, Wednesday, June 8. Not to continue to beat the same drum, however Voss was dominant offensively this season for the Gothic Knights. Now boasting career totals of 131 hits, 115 games played, 86 runs scored, 28 doubles, 86 RBI, 17 home runs and a .312 lifetime average, Voss raked in quite a few of those statistics during the 2022 season. He led NJCU in homers (program-record-tying nine), batting (.418), OPS (1.256), runs (46), hits (61), doubles (14), RBI (45), total bases (108), slugging (.740), walks (tied, 24) and on-base (.516). At regular-season's end, Voss was top 10 in the NJAC in nine different categories, including top three in slugging, on-base, OPS and home runs.
