Women's Soccer Wins Big at Brooklyn, Eight Gothic Knights Tallying a Point

Alvarenga and Brites Score Twice, Brites Leads NJAC in Goals

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The New Jersey City University women's soccer team dominated again today, Wednesday, Sept. 14, as the squad extended their win streak against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs to four matches after toppling the team from N.Y, 7-0, respectively. A total of eight Gothic Knights got in on the action, tallying at least one point this afternoon. The defense shined for the squad, as Jersey City's team only allowed two shots throughout the match, no shots on goal, and just one corner kick in the 90 minutes of play.

The Gothic Knights (2-2-2) were led by freshman Nyrohah Alvarenga (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) and junior Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret), as both forwards contributed to a multi-goal match. Brites has now scored in the past three matches and leads the New Jersey Athletic Conference with six goals on the season. Also, the all-NJAC performer is tied for second in the conference with 12 points. Alvarenga moved into second place on the team with four goals this season, which leads all freshman on the squad and eight total points.

Getting things going early for Jersey City's team was junior forward Shea Ramirez (Bogota, N.J./Immaculate Conception) blasting her first goal of the season in the 3rd minute off of a pass from junior Rayanna Lima (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) to give NJCU an early 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Alvarenga tallied her first goal of the afternoon to extend the NJCU lead, 2-0. Capping her first goal of the 2021-22' season was senior Arame Diouf (Weehawken, N.J./Memorial), as the captain rocked a pass from Alvarenga in the 24th to extend the lead, 3-0.

Opening up the flood gates for the Gothic Knights was Brites, as she collected both of her goals late in the first half. The first goal scored by the senior was set up by two nifty passes by Alvarenga and Lima in the 26th minute, leading Brites to her fifth goal on the year. With just seven minutes to play in the half, Brites came up with peachy ball-handling skills, and struck her team-high sixth goal of the season, giving the squad a comfortable 5-0 lead heading into the half. The defense was stellar for head coach Anthony Tuesta, as his backs and defensive front did not allow any shots or corner-kicks in the first 45 minutes of play.

The Brooklyn College Bulldogs (0-5-0) tightened up their defense in the second half, limiting the squad to two goals in the next 45 minutes of play. Getting the Gothic Knights back on the board was Alvarenga for the second time in the 79th minute. The freshman notched her fourth goal of the season, scorching a shot past the Bulldog keeper, and extending the lead, 6-0. Finishing up the offensive attack this afternoon was freshman Yoselis De Jesus (San Cristobal, Dominican Republic/Loyola Polytechnic Institute) scoring her first collegiate goal. The newcomer made the most of the great passes made by senior Grace Sabaya (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) and fellow freshman Natalia Jaramillo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) in the 83rd minute to give NJCU the 7-0 lead. 25 different players saw action this afternoon for Jersey City's team.
