SCRANTON, Pa. — The New Jersey City University men's wrestling team competed in their second event in three days on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Electric City Duals, hosted by the University of Scranton. The Gothic Knights picked up a pair of victories — the first two of head coach Jason Estevez' career — over five matches, defeating Elmira College (36-10) and Keystone College (36-20). Sophomore 125-pounder Lucas Torre (Point Pleasant, N.J./Brick Memorial) was a perfect 5-0 on the day with two technical falls and a pin, while fifth-year captain 157-pounder Jeff Johnson (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was 4-0 with a pair of major decisions.

NJCU (2-4) began with the 36-10 victory over Elmira. The squad had a couple wins by forfeit, as well as a decision from sophomore 141-pounder Andy Beras (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield), pins from sophomore 149-pounder Zack Vera (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) and senior 165-pounder Ty Bailey (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro), a major decision from Johnson and a tech fall for junior 184-pounder Pierre Francois (Elizabeth, N.J./Dwyer Tech).

In the tough 38-13 loss to SUNY Oneonta, Torre picked up a tech fall, while Vera and Johnson notched major decisions. Torre and freshman 133-pounder Dean Costantino (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) then picked up technical fall wins in the 31-16 loss to Scranton "A," while Vera and Johnson won decisions.

The Gothic Knights then nearly topped Scranton "B" in the one-point, 28-27 loss. Torre and Costantino each notched wins by fall, as did juniors 157-pounder Mikey Cross (Union, N.J./Union City) and 174-pounder Jaydin Mahon (New Brunswick, N.J./New Brunswick). Francois also notched a decision victory.

Finally, in the 36-20 win over Keystone, NJCU had a couple more wins by forfeit, while Costantino, Vera and Bailey picked up pins. Mahon also earned a win via injury default.
