MANHEIM, Pa. — The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released its first regular-season NCAA Women's Wrestling Coaches' Poll of the 2023-24 season, and for the first time in program history, the New Jersey City University women's wrestling team has surged into the top-10 nationally, coming it at #9.
The Gothic Knights most recently put together a solid performance at Adrian College last weekend as part of the Adrian Duals and Adrian Invitational. Senior captain
Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) and junior
Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) combined to go 15-2 over the weekend, picking up runner-up finishes in their respective weight classes at the Invite on Sunday, Nov. 12.
For her efforts to start the season, Guerrero has earned the highest individual ranking in program history and is the #3-ranked 191-pounder in the nation. The two-time All-American started the season unranked before a dominant run to begin 2023-24, as she eyes a third All-American finish at this year's National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) in March.
Frezzo, who began the season ranked #5 at 109 pounds after spending the majority of 2022-23 in that weight class, has wrestled exclusively at 116 to start this season. After her 8-1 performance at Adrian, she now occupies the same spot — #5 — at 116 pounds nationally.

Due to various reasons, the Gothic Knights will no longer compete in the road tri in Elmira, N.Y., on Friday, Nov. 17. Instead, they will use the time to recover and prepare before returning to action in East Stroudsburg, Pa., on Sunday, Dec. 3, for the NCWWC Northeast Regional Duals, hosted by #10 East Stroudsburg University.
