Rodriguez Selected to D3hoops.com Preseason All-America Second Team

November 02, 2023

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — For the third straight season, New Jersey City University women's basketball standout senior point guard Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) has been named to the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America Team, garnering Second Team honors this year.

Rodriguez, who was a Preseason All-America Fourth Team selection each of the last two seasons, finished up 2022-23 as a D3hoops.com All-America Second Team selection, as well as a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III All-America Honorable Mention. She was named the Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Year, was a D3hoops.com First Team All-Region 4 selection and won the second All-Met Division III Player of the Year honor of her career. A three-time First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) selection, Rodriguez won her first NJAC Player of the Year honor last season.

Among her many accolades, Rodriguez statistically was the leading scorer in all of NCAA Division III last season at 24.3 points per game. For her career, she has scored 1,358 points in 62 games (21.9 points per game) to go with 404 assists (6.5 assists per game), 323 rebounds (5.2 rebounds per game) and 157 steals (2.5 steals per game). Rodriguez is a .398 percent shooter from the floor, including .341 from beyond the arc and has made 139 three-pointers in her career.

Though this season is her fourth with the Green and Gold, she still has another season of eligibility due to her shortened 11-game freshman campaign — during which she led NJCU to its first NJAC Championship in program history — not counting against a season of eligibility.

Up Next:
Having played a couple of preseason exhibitions against Division I opponents Wagner College and Saint Peter's University, Rodriguez and the rest of the Gothic Knights now have 12 days until the start of their regular-season. Albertus Magnus College comes to the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) and Coach Charlie Brown Court for the regular-season opener — and first-ever meeting between the two programs — on Tuesday night, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m.
