NEW YORK — The New Jersey City University men's wrestling program competed at the New York University duals on Saturday, Dec. 2, taking part in three neutral matches on NYU's campus. The Gothic Knights took on Western New England University, Roger Williams University and Rhode Island College.
NJCU (2-7) began with its tightest match of the day against WNE (5-2), falling to the Golden Bears, 32-16. Sophomore 125-pounder
Lucas Torre (Point Pleasant, N.J./Brick Memorial) started off the match with a 10-0 major decision victory for his first of three wins over three matches on the day. He currently leads NJCU with an 8-1 overall record this season. Rookie 133-pounder
Dean Costantino (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) followed with a 5-1 decision victory of his own and he is now 5-4 on the young season. After a loss at 141, sophomore 149-pounder
Zack Vera (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) followed with an 11-4 win by decision for one of his two victories on the day and he is now second on the team at 7-2. In his only match of the day, fifth-year team captain 157-pounder
Jeff Johnson (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) picked up the 15-0 technical fall to put NJCU up 16-5 at the time. Unfortunately, WNE won the next three, including two by fall, and then got the forfeit points at 197 and heavyweight to cement the 32-16 win over the Gothic Knights.
Torre picked up another decision win (8-3) in the Green and Gold's 49-3 loss to Roger Williams (2-1). He then earned a 10-7 sudden victory against RIC (2-2). Two matches later, Vera earned a 5-2 decision to make it 9-6 at the time.

NJCU returns to action next Saturday, Dec. 9, back on the road at the Metro Duals, hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. The Gothic Knights will take on USMMA, Hunter College and #14-rankred NYU.
