BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — The New Jersey City University men's volleyball team quickly dispatched Sarah Lawrence College on the road on Wednesday night, Feb. 22, in the Gothic Knights' Skyline Conference opener. NJCU took just three sets (25-14, 25-11, 25-9) to defeat the Gryphons as eighth-year head coach
Carlo Edra '07 earned the 109th victory of his career, moving him up into sole possession of first-place all-time in program history.
Jersey City (7-4, 1-0 Skyline) started off strong in set one against Sarah Lawrence (0-7, 0-2 Skyline). The Gryphons were within two at 8-6 before NJCU won 11 of the next 13 points to take a commanding 19-8 lead and subsequently closed out the first with a 25-14 advantage. The second set was more of the same as, with Sarah Lawrence down just three at 9-6, the Gothic Knights once again enjoyed a 9-1 run to go up 18-7 before winning the set, 25-11, to go up 2-0 in the match. Finally, Jersey City got out to a 13-3 start in the third and final set before eventually winning it by a 16-point margin at 25-9 for the match sweep.

Leo Ferrari (Kearny, N.J./Kearny), who has transitioned back to setter in recent matches, got the nod on the outside tonight and dominated with a season- and match-best 11 kills and not a single error on 16 swings (.688 hitting percentage). He added four digs, two aces and a block.
- Just named Skyline Rooke of the Week, freshman
Ethen Lugo (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) started as well and had seven kills and one error on 11 swings (.545).
- Junior
Kenneth Gil (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) notched six kills and one error on 11 swings (.455) to go with two digs and an ace.
- Sophomore middle blocker
Mike McGehee (Avondale, Ariz./Agua Fria) had six kills, as well, and three errors on 10 swings (.300), while freshman middle
Amaru Perales (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) had three kills, four aces and two blocks.
- Freshman
Erik Narvaez (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) got the start at setter and dished out a match-best 29 assists to go with three digs and an ace.
- Junior
Leandro Perez (Elizabeth, N.J./Kearny) and senior
Nico Figueroa (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) — the now-reigning Skyline Libero of the Week — split time at libero and combined for 15 digs. Perez led all players with a career- and match-best eight on the night.

The Gothic Knights return to the court after a week off on Sunday, March 5, in New York on the campus of Yeshiva University for a Skyline tri-match. NJCU first faces the hosting Maccabees at 10:00 a.m., followed by a rematch of the previous two Skyline Championship matches when the Green and Gold take on St. Joseph's University-Long Island at 12:00 p.m. for the first time this season.
