MADISON, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's tennis team kicked off the Spring portion of their 2022-23 season today, Saturday, Feb. 25, on day one of the two-day Ranger Invitational Doubles Tournament, which is being hosted by Drew University. The Gothic Knights had its doubles pairings compete in 10 total matches on the day and picked up eight victories.
The most successful duo was the pairing of freshman
Pedro Caro-Accino Roca (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain/British School of Gran Canaria) and junior captain
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine). The pair posted a 4-0 record on the day, with wins over FDU-Florham (6-2), Harford Community College and two over host Drew.
Sophomore
Joaquin Pluis (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Santa Felicitas) and junior
Gerard Loras (Tortosa, Spain/Col·legi Diocesà Sagrada Família) teamed up for three matches and went 2-1 on the day, winning two over opponents from Rowan College of South Jersey. Last but not least, the veteran pair of juniors
Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico) and
Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) combined for a 2-1 record of three matches, as well, with wins against Drew and Harford.
