PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its weekly award winners today, Monday, Feb. 27, and a tri of New Jeresy City University Gothic Knights earned accolades. Senior outfielder/pitcher Josh Hernandez (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community) led the way as the Baseball Player of the Week, while freshmen Jalynn Clark (Irvington, N.J./Elizabeth) and Erik Narvaez (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) were named Rookie of the Week in women's basketball and men's volleyball, respectively.

Hernandez had a stellar first week of the season for NJCU, who went 1-1. He went 6-for-8 at the plate (.750) and slugged 1.375 with four RBI thanks to a pair of doubles and a solo home run. He added eight runs, a walk, was hit by a pitch, had a sac fly and was 2-for-2 on the base pads, as well. Additionally, he tossed 3.0 scoreless/hitless innings out of the pen to go with three strikeouts and just one walk. Hernandez is currently enjoying at 15.1 inning scoreless streak on the mound, dating back to March 31, 2022. In the 12-8 loss at FDU-Florham on Tuesday, Feb. 21, he was 2-for-4 with three runs, a double, a sac fly and a RBI. Then, in the 17-7 win on Sunday, Feb. 26, over Haverford College at Caven Point, he was 3-for-4 once again to go with five runs scored, three RBI, another double, a walk, two stolen bases in two attempts, was hit by a pitch and launched his first home run of the season.

Clark once again played a big role for the Gothic Knights, who went 1-1 last week with a NJAC semifinal win and championship game loss. The rookie averaged 8.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks over 24.7 minutes per game. She began with a career-high 13 points on 6-of-7 from the floor (and a free throw) to go with a career-best nine rebounds, adding two steals as NJCU topped The College of New Jersey at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 78-74, in overtime. She then chipped in four points, three rebounds, two assists and a career- and game-high three blocks in the championship loss on Saturday, Feb. 25, to Rowan University, 78-70, also at the JMAC.

Narvaez got the nod as NJCU's primary setter in Wednesday's three-set sweep at Sarah Lawrence College to open up Skyline Conference play in Bronxville, N.Y. He dished out a match-best 29 assists to go with three digs and an ace.

This is Hernandez' first NJAC Weekly honor of the season and second of his career. Clark is now a three-time NJAC Rookie of the Week. Narvaez picks up his first-career weekly honor of any kind.
