DANBURY, Conn. — After finishing as regular-season New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) champions for the first time in program history, the New Jersey City University women's basketball team came up just short in the 2023 NJAC Championship game. However, today, Monday, Feb. 27, the Gothic Knights were selected as the #2 seed in the 2023 Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women's Basketball Championship Tournament.
Jersey City (15-11, 14-4 NJAC) will open up play on Wednesday evening, March 1, in Aston, Pa., as the squad travels down to face #7 seed Neumann University (13-13, 6-6 Atlantic East) for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
The tournament's #1 overall seed is NJAC rival Ramapo College (16-10, 10-8 NJAC), who gets a bye into the weekend, which will be hosted by the Roadrunners on Saturday, March 4 (semifinal round) and Sunday, March 5 (championship game). The other Friday quarterfinal round games will feature #5 Alvernia University (17-10, 11-5 MAC Commonwealth), who travels to #4 Penn State Behrend (21-6, 12-2 AMCC), as well as another NJAC foe in #3 William Paterson University (15-11, 10-8 NJAC), who will host #6 John Jay College (19-9, 11-3 CUNYAC).
