JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The #13-ranked New Jersey City University women's wrestling team competed in a tri of matches on Sunday, Feb. 5, as part of a home quad at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC). The Gothic Knights went 2-1 overall against their opponents and celebrated Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate) prior to the action on Senior Day.

NJCU (4-5) first got things started against Cedar Crest College and topped the Falcons, 29-21. Seven of the 10 matches ended in wins by forfeit for either side, however all three of the matches with actual competition went the Gothic Knights' way. Junior Bella Serrano (Belmar, N.J./Manasquan) got things started at 116 pounds with a 12-2 technical fall victory. Henry, the #5-ranked 123-pounder in the nation, followed suit with a win by fall in just 34 seconds to make it 19-1 at the time. The last actual match came at 143 pounds where junior Claire Daity (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) made her season debut with a win by fall at 2:14 into the first period.

Jersey City's next match was the most highly anticipated of the day as the squad took on Elmira College. Unfortunately, the shorthanded Gothic Knights fell to the Soaring Eagles, 33-10. Sophomore 109-pounder Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) secured a 10-0 technical fall to make it 5-4 in favor of NJCU at the time. However, Henry's win by forfeit at 123 pounds was the last time the Green and Gold would score against Elmira in the tough defeat.

NJCU closed out the day with a 26-19 victory over Alvernia University, however only one weight class wrestled (101 pounds).
