Bajor, Esteva Continue to Collect as Skyline Honors the Pair

February 07, 2023

NEW YORK — Just a day after two New Jersey City University men's volleyball players collected weekly honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), the Skyline Conference continued to recognize a pair of Gothic Knights for their efforts on the court this past week. Already the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, senior Daniel Esteva (Union, N.J./Union) is now also the Skyline Men's Volleyball Libero of the Week, while senior co-captain outside hitter/opposite James Bajor (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) was recognized as the conference's Player of the Week.

Esteva was strong on the back line, averaging 4.17 digs per set (25 total) and had a perfect serve-receive (41-for-41). He began with a match-best 10 digs and an assist in the three-set home loss to #1 Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday night, Feb. 1, at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC). Esteva then followed up with a dominant team-high 15 digs in the 3-0 sweep of NJAC rival Kean University at home on Saturday, Feb. 4. He did not play in the quick three set win over first-year program The College at Old Westbury later that same day.

Bajor had a very strong week, as well, as he played a large role in the Gothic Knights 2-1 record. He ended with 22 kills (3.67/set) and just six errors on 55 swings (.291 hitting) to go with 12 digs (2.00/set) and five total blocks (0.83/set). He started off with a match-best 11 kills and five errors on 28 swings (.214) to go with eight digs and a block in the loss to the top-ranked Ducks. Then, in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Cougars, Bajor had another match-best 11 kills with just one error on 27 swings (.37) to go with a pair of aces, four total blocks and four digs. He also did not play against the Panthers.

This if the fourth-career Skyline Libero of the Week honor for Esteva, and the first of this season. Bajor is now a two-time Skyline Player of the Week for his career — this is also his first of the season.

Up Next:
Esteva, Bajor and the rest of the Green and Gold continue play this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11-12, in Glenside, Pa., for three non-conference matches as part of the Arcadia University Tournament.
