JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Just days after earning the first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) weekly honor of his NCAA career, New Jersey City University baseball senior outfielder/pitcher
Josh Hernandez (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista Community) collected another accolade today, Wednesday, March 1, as D3baseball.com selected the second-year Gothic Knight to the National Team of the Week for the first time in his career.
Hernandez had a stellar first week of the season for NJCU, who went 1-1. He went 6-for-8 at the plate (.750) and slugged 1.375 with four RBI thanks to a pair of doubles and a solo home run. He added eight runs, a walk, was hit by a pitch, had a sac fly and was 2-for-2 on the base pads, as well. Additionally, he tossed 3.0 scoreless/hitless innings out of the pen to go with three strikeouts and just one walk. Hernandez is currently enjoying at 15.1 inning scoreless streak on the mound, dating back to March 31, 2022. In the 12-8 loss at FDU-Florham on Tuesday, Feb. 21, he was 2-for-4 with three runs, a double, a sac fly and a RBI. Then, in the 17-7 win on Sunday, Feb. 26, over Haverford College at Caven Point, he was 3-for-4 once again to go with five runs scored, three RBI, another double, a walk, two stolen bases in two attempts, was hit by a pitch and launched his first home run of the season.

After a weather postponment today due to the snow, Hernandez and the rest of the Jersey City baseball team return to action tomorrow, Thursday, March 2, in Hackettstown, N.J., to face Centenary University at 2:30 p.m.
