Rodriguez Named to D3hoops.com All-Region First Team for Third Straight Season

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — For third consecutive season, New Jersey City University women's basketball standout junior guard Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) was selected as a First Team All-Region honoree by D3hoops.com, which released its 10 men's and 10 women's All-Region teams today, Tuesday, March 14. NJCU and the rest of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) are part of Region 4.

A Preseason D3hoops.com All-America Fourth Team selection for the second straight season, Rodriguez led NJCU to a 17-12 mark, including 14-4 in NJAC regular-season play in 2022-23, which was highlighted by the program's first-ever NJAC regular-season title in its 53-year history, as well as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship Tournament runner-up finish. Additionally, for just the second time ever (and first time since 1988-89), Rodriguez represented the Gothic Knights as the NJAC Player of the Year — she was also selected to the All-NJAC First Team for the third straight season. A three-time D3hoops.com Team of the Week honoree this year, she was a one-time Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Divisions II-III Player of the Week, as well as a five-time weekly honor roll recipient. Rodriguez was also a six-time NJAC Player of the Week after leading NJCU to its third straight NJAC Championship game appearance. Last but not least, she reached the 1,000 career points plateau in just her 49th-career game.

Statistically, she ended the season averaging 24.3 points per game which was first in all of Division III. She also led the country in total points (630) and made field goals (247). Rodriguez finished first in the NJAC in fourth in the nation in assists per game (6.2). Overall she notched four double-doubles, as well as the first triple-double of her career. Rodriguez scored 20-plus points in 23 of her 28 games played, including 30-plus points on seven occasions — she scored a career-best 34 at Rowan University on Jan. 4, 2023.
