PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The New Jersey City University men's tennis team earned a dominant, 9-0, shutout victory on the road in non-conference play on Wednesday evening, March 29, over St. Joseph's University-Long Island. The Gothic Knights played 15 total sets against the Golden Eagles and dropped just two games.
At first doubles for NJCU (5-6), the junior pair of
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) and
Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico) picked up a scoreless win, while junior
Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) paired with sophomore
Joaquin Pluis (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Santa Felicitas) at second doubles for the same, 8-0, win. Freshman
Pedro Caro-Accino Roca (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain/British School of Gran Canaria) and senior
Ryan Weiss (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) followed suit, winning 8-0 at third doubles over the Golden Eagles (0-3).
Singles went pretty much the same way. Caro, Julia, Pluis and Weiss all won at third-sixth singles, respectively, by 6-0, 6-0 shutouts, while Teynie and Ley each won, 6-1, 6-0, at first and second singles, respectively.
