CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The #16-ranked New Jersey City University women's wrestling team finished up competition at the 2023 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) on Friday and Saturday, March 3-4. The Gothic Knights had two National Qualifiers, led by #5-ranked 123-pounder junior
Naomi Henry (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wingate). The now-two-time All-American clinched her AA status yesterday with a win to advance to the consolation Quarterfinal Round and today won her final match to cement a seventh-place finish.
Yesterday, sophomore 109-pounder
Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) finished with a 3-2 record. She ended her season as a two-time National Qualifier and came up just one win shy of earning All-American status. Henry posted 2-1 record yesterday, including her consolation Quarterfinal-clinching and All-American cementing victory to close out the day.
Today, Henry matched up with #8-ranked Jennifer Soto of #3 McKendree University in the consolation Quarterfinal Round. Henry fell behind 8-0 in the first period and entered the second trailing 8-2. She came all the way back, however, and unfortunately came up just short in the 10-9 decision defeat. She then advanced to the seventh-place match against Gabby Skidmore of #5 Augsburg University and earned a hard-fought, 3-2 decision victory to close out her season with a win.
Henry ends her season — and her three-year Gothic Knight career — as a two-time All-American and three-time National Qualifier. She amassed a 25-6 record in 2022-23 with nine wins by fall and six technical falls, including a 20-5 mark at 123 pounds. She notched two first-place tournament finishes, a runner-up finish at the NCWWC Northeast Regionals and two third-place finishes early in the season.
