Box Score HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The New Jersey City University women's tennis team picked up a hard-fought, 5-4 victory over Morningside University on Tuesday morning, March 7, to kick off the squad's time at the Spring Tennis Fest. The Gothic Knights won all three doubles matches, which would be key, and picked up two more wins in singles play to nail down the win.

NJCU (3-1) went up 3-0 after doubles play against the Mustangs (6-3). Senior Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and reigning New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week Sophia Jurina (Munich, Germany/Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium) teamed up at first doubles for the 8-1 win before senior Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) and sophomore Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) then paired together for an 8-4 victory at second doubles. Finally, sophomore Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino) and freshman Mar Julia (Barcelona, Spain/INS Sant Quirze) got the 8-6 win at third doubles.

Leading by three and needing just two victories in singles play, the Green and Gold did just that. The Mustangs won a sixth and third singles to make it 3-2 before Clamor took home the 7-5, 6-2 win at second singles to make it 4-2. Morningside responded with a win at fifth to make it 4-3 before Jurina came through clutch for the win at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-3, to clinch the victory.
