HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The New Jersey City University men's tennis team squared off against the 13th-ranked team in all of NAIA, Grace College, on Thursday, March 9. The Gothic Knights put up a fight against the Lancers, but fell 7-0.

Jersey City (3-4) did manage to take first doubles off the Lancers (19-4) as juniors Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) and Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico) teamed up for the 6-4 win. However, with Grace being the home team, scoring was set to NAIA rules, which means doubles play adds up to one point (instead of three), giving the Lancers the point with wins at second and third doubles.

Teynie pushed his foe to the brink at first singles, dropping the first set 7-5 before falling in the second, 6-0. Junior Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) was the only Gothic Knight to win a set against Grace in singles play at #4, but he fell in three (4-6, 6-3, 10-4).

Up Next:
NJCU takes a quick trip down to Baltimore, Md., on Friday, March 17, to face Goucher College. The Gothic Knights and Gophers have first serve scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
