JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's tennis team hosted a non-conference home match at the Lincoln Park Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon, April 13. The Gothic Knights defeated FDU-Florham, 8-1.
Things got started quickly at third doubles as NJCU (9-6) saw the pair of senior
Ryan Weiss (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) and freshman
Pedro Caro-Accino Roca (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain/British School of Gran Canaria) sweep their opponents from the Devils (4-4), 8-0. After FDU got one back to tie it was an 8-5 win at second doubles. junior duo
Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) and
Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico) grinded out an 8-3 victory at first doubles.
Ley started it off with a win by retirement in the second set of second singles, putting Jersey City up 3-1 at that point, before junior
Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles) made it 4-1 after winning, 6-3, 6-2, at fifth singles. Caro clinched the victory for NJCU with a 7-6(1), 6-1, win at fourth singles. Sophomore
Joaquin Pluis (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Santa Felicitas) was next to finish at third singles with a 6-1, 6-4, win before Weiss was the second-to-last to close out his day via a 6-2, 6-4, win at #6. Teynie finally ended the afternoon with a hard-fought, 7-5, 6-3, win at first singles over a tough opponent to call it a day.
