Jurina, Zorzan and Clamor Headline All-NJAC Women's Tennis Honors

PITMAN, N.J. — The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) released its 2022-23 All-Conference teams for women's tennis today, Wednesday, April 27, and a trio of New Jersey City University women's tennis players garnered recognition. Seniors Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) each picked up First Team accolades in both singles and doubles, while freshman Sophia Jurina (Munich, Germany/Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium) was named Rookie of the Year.

Prior to the NJAC Championship match at top-seeded The College of New Jersey this Saturday, April 29, Jurina has compiled an overall record of 11-4 in singles play, including a perfect 5-0 mark in conference competition. The rookie has spent her time primarily at fourth singles (7-2 overall) but has also seen time at second, third and fifth singles. She is currently on a three-match winning streak and is 8-1 in her previous 10 singles matches. In doubles play, Jurina has compiled an outstanding mark of 13-3, including a 4-1 record in NJAC play alone. She has seen time at first, second and third doubles, compiling records of 2-1, 9-1 and 2-1, respectively. Jurina has primarily paired with sophomore Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) at second doubles and the duo currently boasts a record of 7-1 in that position. She adds her NJAC Rookie of the Year award to her three Rookie of the Week honors this season.

Now a three-time First Team All-NJAC singles player and two-time First Team All-NJAC in doubles, Zorzan has once again been dominant, occupying the #1 singles and doubles slots for the Gothic Knights all season long. Entering Saturday's match at the Lions, the NJCU senior is currently 9-6 overall in singles play, all at first singles, including a 4-1 mark in NJAC competition. She is currently on a three-match winning streak and is 8-2 in her last 10. Additionally, she has compiled a 12-3 overall record in doubles play, including a 10-3 mark at first doubles and a 2-0 record at second; she is 4-1 in conference play. Zorzan has primary paired with Clamor at first doubles and the pair is 6-2 overall together, including 3-1 in NJAC play. Zorzan adds this recognition to her two NJAC Player of the Week nods this season.

Last but not least, Clamor is now a two-time First Team All-NJAC selection in singles and earned her first doubles First Team recognition this season. A one-time NJAC Player of the Week, Clamor has compiled an 8-4 mark in singles play heading into Saturday, all at second singles, including a 3-1 record in conference play. She has won six of her last 10 singles match, including her last two. In doubles competition, she is 9-5 overall, including 3-1 in NJAC play, and has played all but three of her matches at first doubles (2-1 at #2). As mentioned, Clamor has spent the majority of her time paired with Zorzan at #1 and the two are 6-2 overall toghet, including 3-1 in NJAC play.
