Baseball Downed by #19 Rowan on the Road

Allo, Yarson and Lunar Record Multi-Hit Days in the Loss

GLASSBORO, N.J. — The New Jersey City University baseball team traveled down to South Jersey for a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) matchup with #19-ranked Rowan University on Thursday, April 6. Three Gothic Knights recorded multi-hit performances, however NJCU fell to the highly-ranked Profs, 17-2.

Jersey City (10-11, 1-2 NJAC) actually got on the board first against Rowan (14-6, 1-2 NJAC) as, with graduate first baseman Ricky Voss (Eatontown, N.J./Monmouth Regional) on second and two outs, rookie designated hitter Dom Yarson (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) knocked him in to make it 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

Unfortunately that lead was short lived as the Profs took a 9-1 lead after three innings of play. NJCU got on back in the top of the fifth as, against with two outs, freshman shortstop Arian Lunar (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) was on second and junior third baseman Garrett Allo (Monroe, N.J./East Brunswick Tech) hit a RBI single to make it 9-2. That was the end of the offense for the Green and Gold in the defeat.

Highlights:
- Allo finished 2-for-4 with a RBI, as did Yarson.
- Lunar was 2-for-2 with a run scored.
- Voss, sophomore catcher Nick Vaughn (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township), sophomore Salvatore Verlingo (Nutley, N.J./St. Mary) and junior D.J. Dekis (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) all recorded hits, as well.

Up Next:
The Gothic Knights return to action tomorrow, Friday, April 7, for a 3:30 p.m. single game at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex against the same Profs to close out the two-game regular-season series.
