Seven Gothic Knight Tennis Players Named Academic All-District

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The College Sports Communicators (CSC) — formerly known as CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) — released its annual Academic All-District Men's and Women's Tennis selections. New Jersey University combined for seven selections, three men and four women.

Representing the women's on the Division III Academic All-District Team are seniors Giada Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo dello Sport Marco Pantani) and Eliza Clamor (Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) and Sophomores Vanshita Malhotra (Barwala, India/DAV Model School) and Sara Zorzan (Milan, Italy/Liceo Falcone Borsellino). For the men, it is senior Nico Teynie (Rouen, France/Lycée Val de Seine) and juniors Alejandro Ley (Las Palmas, Spain/I.E.S. Politécnico) and Jordi Julia (Barcelona, Spain/IES Sant Quirze del Valles). Zorzan repeats her honor from last season, while the other six pick up the accolade for the first time in their careers.

The qualifications for the distinction of Academic All-District are as follows — student-athletes must have AT LEAST a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and have participated in AT LEAST 50 percent of their team's contests for the current season. Having been named as Academic All-District honorees, all seven Gothic Knights are now officially nominated for Academic All-America. Voting among the nation's Division III Athletic Communications professionals is currently underway.

Zorzan, a First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in both singles and doubles this year, finished her season a 9-7 overall in singles play, including 4-1 in NJAC competition, all at first singles. Also, paired primarily with Clamor, she went 12-4 in doubles play, primarily at #1 and was 4-1 in NJAC play. Clamor, who was 9-6 in doubles, was also a First Team All-NJAC selection in both singles and doubles. In singles play, all at #2, she was 8-5 overall.

Malhotra was 3-2 in NJAC play in singles, primarily at #3, which made up part of her 7-8 overall mark. In doubles competition, she finished 11-6 overall, mostly at #2, and most often alongside freshman Sophia Jurina (Munich, Germany/Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium). The younger Zorzan — Sara — was 11-5 in singles play, primary at #5, including a 4-1 mark in NJAC play. She was also 7-9 in doubles play, including a 3-2 mark in conference.

Teynie, who was ranked as high as #4 in the region and #12 nationally this season, finished 15-8 overall, including 10-5 in dual match play all at #1 singles. In doubles competition, alongside Ley primarily, he compiled a 17-5 mark, including 11-5 at #1 and 2-1 in NJAC play. He was First Team All-NJAC in singles and doubles, as was Ley, who posted a 14-8 mark in doubles play, including 3-1 in NJAC and 12-2 at #1. In singles, where he was 13-6 overall, Ley posted a 10-5 mark at #2, including 3-1 in NJAC play. Julia finished 9-8 in singles play, seeing time primarily at #4 and #5 and was 3-1 in the NJAC. He was also 10-10 in doubles play, including 7-4 at #2 and had a 3-1 record in conference play.
