August 15, 2023

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's cross country team, under the guidance of sixth-year head coach Patrick O'Neill, has announced its 2023 schedule, which consists of five meets, culminating with the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship.

2022 Season in Review:
The Gothic Knights competed in seven events in 2022 and had strong performances in every single one. Now-graduated Tiffany Ortiz (Jersey City, N.J./University Academy Charter) led NJCU as its top finisher in the three events she competed in, while returning senior Grace Sabaya (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) — a late add to the roster following the completion of the women's soccer season — was dominant on the back end, finishing first for Jersey City in the final three races of the year. Now-juniors Ashley Adames (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) and Nyla Boyd (Thomson, Ga./Thomson) competed the most for the Green and Gold, racing in four and five events, respectively. The highlights of the season were Sabaya's top-30 finish at NJACs, as well as her third-place nod at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.

2023 Season Outlook:
Things get underway down in South Jersey at a familiar location in Ewing as The College of New Jersey hosts the Herb Lorenz Invitational on Sept. 9. Three weeks later, the Gothic Knights head up to Bethpage State Park on Long Island for the Golden Eagles Invitational, hosted by St. Joseph's University-Long Island on Sept. 29. The next month of action kicks off a week later at Branch Brook Park in Newark as the New Jersey Institute of Technology hosts the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 7. The final regular-season meet of the year is back up on Long Island as St. Joe's-LI hosts its annual Invitational on Oct. 14 at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park. Finally, the 2023 NJAC Championship will be hosted by Stockton University in Galloway on Oct. 27.

Hear from Head Coach Patrick O'Neill:
"We are excited to build on the success of last season," said O'Neill. "We have a solid group that is going to be able to push each other to new heights this year."
