ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The New Jersey City University women's soccer team dominated Cedar Crest College in every fact of the game on the road on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 13, and defeated the Falcons, 2-0, behind a two-goal performance from senior striker
Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret).
The Gothic Knights (2-3) peppered the Cedar Crest (0-2-1) keeper all afternoon long, including 10 shots on goal in the first half and 12 in the second, however NJCU was unable to break through over the first 45 minutes.
At the start of the second half, however, Brites jumped all over a rebounded shot off the crossbar to score her first goal of the season in the 49th and put the Green and Gold up, 1-0. Sophomore midfielder
Becky Lopez (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View) ripped a shot to the top of the net, but was turned straight up by the Falcons' goalie. That ball went off the crossbar and landed right on the foot of Brites, who put it away.
Then, after five more second-half on-target shots, Brites once again scored for her team-leading second goal of the season, to put NJCU up 2-0 in the 81st. Sophomore back
Jess Digristina (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) centered the ball from the right side of the box to right in front of the net. Brites then played the ball up a couple of times before ripping a shot right on net for the tally.
Highlights:
- Sophomore keeper
Sophia Mannino (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) made a couple of stops in the second half to secure her second shutout victory of the season, and third of her career.
- Mannino's backline allowed just three total shots from Cedar Crest all day long.
- NJCU had an 8-0 corner kick advantage, as well.
- Freshman forward
Bella Moore (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) tied Brites with a game-high three shots on goal.
