GALLOWAY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's basketball team traveled to play New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) rival Stockton University on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 13th. It was a low-scoring affair in which the Ospreys came out on top, 64-56.
The game's first basket belonged to freshman guard
Na'tori Postell (Passaic, N.J./Passaic Arts & Science Charter) via free throw, but the Ospreys (10-6, 7-2 NJAC) took the lead back on the following possession. They controlled the remainder of the first quarter over the Green and Gold (8-6, 6-3 NJAC), and had a 14-9 lead.
NJCU had a better second quarter, powered by senior forward
Dayjah Anderson (East Orange, NJ/Newark Tech). Anderson scored eight of the Gothic Knights' 15, and brought the team within a point to close out the half.
Quarter number three went similarly to the first. Stockton converted on five of its first eight shots to open the second half, and took a 12 point lead with 4:51 in the third. NJCU tried to chip away at the lead, getting it as low as six points twice in the fourth quarter, including a three-pointer with 0:10 remaining by senior guard
Alex Sams (Burlington City, N.J./Burlington City). However, the Ospreys sealed the game at the free throw line on the following possession and put an end to NJCU's three game NJAC winning streak.
