NEW CASTLE, Del. — The New Jersey City University women's bowling program competed in the second of three days at the Northeast Classic at Bowlerama on Saturday, Jan. 20, once again taking on some of the top-ranked teams in the
most recent National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25 Poll.
Day two, which saw NJCU (13-15) take part in five traditional matches, began with a strong, 744-679 victory over Howard University. Then, after putting up a team score of 837 against #7 University of Nebraska, the Gothic Knights put up their highest total of the day (915) in a tough, tight loss to the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Next, the Green and Gold put up 807 against #9-ranked Stephen F. Austin before closing out the day with 847 against #17 Sacred Heart University in a defeat.
Individually, the Gothic Knights highest game of the day came from senior captain
Meagan Raimondo (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge), with a 214 in the tight loss versus UAB — overall, her scoring average was 16.56. Her classmate,
Samantha Szymanski (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) was dominant in the four matches she competed in and averaged a team-best 18.68, including a 200 in the close defeat against Sacred Heart. Senior
Rebecca Hoff (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) was strong, never bowling a game lower than 173. She posted a scoring average of 18.18, with a high of 199 against #9 SFA. Another senior,
Rebecca Kain (Keansburg, N.J./Keansburg), had a scoring average of 16.48 with her best game (198) coming against UAB, as well. Rookie
Sofia Ocasio (Union City, N.J./Jose Marti STEM Academy) bowled in three matches, averaging 15.70, including a 163 in the win over Howard, while junior
Anna Trachsler (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) bowled three times, as well (12.43 average), including a 140 against UAB.
