Bowling Caps off Northeast Classic with 2-1 Record on Day 3

Gothic Knights Take Down AMCC Rival and Division I Foe

NEW CASTLE, Del. — After two long days of top tier competition at the Northeast Classic at Bowlerama, the New Jersey City University women's bowling team took part in the third and final day of play on Sunday, Jan. 21, in a trio of Best-of-Seven Baker matches, picking up a pair of victories on the day.

NJCU (15-16) began with a tough loss to Division II Adelphia University, with all five games decided by 22 or less, including two of the Panthers' four wins by decided by four or less. The Gothic Knights won the first, 164-150, before dropping game number two, 169-159. Game three was the tightest of the day, a 140-139 loss, before game four saw Adelphi win, 177-173. The fifth and final game went the Panthers' way, as well, 166-144. The lineup for the Gothic Knights in this one was junior Anna Trachsler (Carteret, N.J./Carteret), followed by seniors Rebecca Kain (Keansburg, N.J./Keansburg), Samantha Szymanski (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial), Meagan Raimondo (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) and Rebecca Hoff (Colonia, N.J./Colonia).

The Green and Gold kept that momentum going despite the tough loss and came out on top in five games against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) rival, Mount Aloysius College. The Mounties took the first, 171-168, before NJCU won the next four, 146-126, 162-139, 172-171 and 157-138. The lineup for this one was freshman Sofia Ocasio (Union City, N.J./Jose Marti STEM Academy), followed by Kain, Szymanski, Raimondo and Hoff.

Finally, the tightest match of the day saw NJCU defeat Division I Norfolk State University in seven games. The Gothic Knights, using the same lineup as the day's first match, took game one, 164-150, before dropping game two, 170-158. NJCU won the next two, 176-114 and 187-178 to go up 3-1. The Spartans then evened it up by winning the next two, 182-141 and 212-151, however it was the Gothic Knights that took game seven, 203-192 to win the match.
