Men’s Basketball Downed at Home Against Ramapo

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University men's basketball team endured a difficult New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) defeat at home on Wednesday night, Jan. 31, on Coach Charlie Brown Court at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC). Two Gothic Knights finished in double-figures scoring on the night, but NJCU suffered the 85-56 loss at the hands of Ramapo College.

The Green and Gold (6-15, 3-11 NJAC) notched the first bucket of the game to start a first half that was mostly a close game against the Roadrunners (14-7, 8-6 NJAC). Ramapo did answer that initial NJCU basket with a 7-0 run, but then the Gothic Knights came back with five straight to knot it up at 7-7, capped off by a three from sophomore guard Bakhi Rogers-Robinson (Orange, N.J./West Caldwell Tech).

Later on, NJCU scored six straight to go up by four and eventually held a five-point, 19-14 lead with 8:27 left in the half. Jersey City led 21-19 with 6:13 to go until the break, but Ramapo then went on a 10-0 run to go up by eight. NJCU chipped it back down to five but trailed by 10 at the half. The Gothic Knights cut it down to single digits a couple times early on in the second, but the Roadrunners had the game well at hand before coming away with the 29-point road victory.

Highlights:
- Rogers-Robinson led NJCU with 12 points for his seventh double-digit performance of the season in the sixth start of his career. He added a team-high-tying five boards, a team-best three assists and a steal.
- After a one-game absence, senior co-captain guard Will Brown III (Jersey City, N.J./Hudson Catholic) came off the bench for 19 minutes and chipped in 11 points on 4-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-3 from the line to go with two rebounds, a block and an assist.

Up Next:
The Gothic Knights look to right the ship on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the JMAC for another NJAC matchup as Rutgers-Newark comes to the West Side for a scheduled 3:00 p.m. tip.
