CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The #9-ranked New Jersey City University women's wrestling team closed out its two-day trip to the Midwest on Saturday morning, Jan. 6, with a matchup against #11 Gannon University as part of the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/USMC National Duals, which were hosted over the last couple of days at the UNI Dome on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa.
NJCU (3-12) suffered the 34-15 loss at the hands of the Golden Knights (2-5), but did pick up three victories in the process. Top grapplers junior
Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) and senior captain
Sandy Guerrero (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) earned wins by forfeit at 116 and 191 pounds, respectively, while freshman 155-pounder
Apryl Coffman (Sayreville, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) earned a shutout, 10-0 technical fall over her opponent, Ariana Gonzalez. Frezzo (20-2) and Guerrero (21-1) end the weekend topping the 20-win mark for the season and are ranked #6 and #3 nationally in their respective weight classes, while the tech fall victory is the first of its kind for Coffman in her rookie collegiate season — her eighth win overall.

The Gothic Knights return to action next Sunday, Jan. 14, in Collegeville, Pa., for the Will Abele Women's Open, hosted by Ursinus College. NJCU's wrestlers have had a massive amount of success in tournament competition this season and look to continue that next weekend.
