Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw Against Kean, Papamanolis Scores Equalizer

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The NJCU women's soccer team fought to a 1-1 draw against Kean on Saturday, Oct. 12. Senior Amanda Papamanolis (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) scored the equalizer late in the match.

The Gothic Knights (4-2-6, 0-2-2 NJAC) faced a challenging game, getting outshot 14-11 overall, with Kean (6-6-1, 1-2-1 NJAC) also leading in on-target shots (8-4) and corners (9-1). Junior goalkeeper Sophia Mannino (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) made seven crucial saves to keep NJCU in the game.

After halftime, Kean took the lead in the 57th minute with a well-placed corner kick that found the high right of the net. However, in the 86th minute, junior midfielder Joselyn Reyes (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) set up Papamanolis right outside the corner of the box, and she found the high left corner to score her first goal of the season and the second of her career. Reyes recorded her second assist of the season with that play.
