Frezzo Clinches Third, Zeppetelli Earns Seventh as Women’s Wrestling Takes 21st at Adrian Invite

ADRIAN, MICH. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team finished 21st out of 30 teams on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Adrian Invite hosted by Adrian College.

Senior Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional), ranked No. 5, secured a third-place finish in the 110-pound weight class, leading the Gothic Knights to finish with 34.5 points. She began her run with a 12-9 decision victory in the round of 32, dominated in the round of 16 with a technical fall in 4:25, winning 14-2. She continued her strong momentum in the quarterfinals, moving on to the semifinals with a commanding 10-0 tech fall in just 1:40. Although Frezzo fell in the semifinals, she bounced back in the consolation bracket. She fought hard for third place, securing her spot on the podium with a pin in three minutes and a 9-2 decision.

Senior Kayla Zeppetelli (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park), ranked No. 29, represented her team in the 138-pound weight class at the tournament, where she battled through a challenging field to secure a seventh-place finish. Zeppetelli kicked off her tournament with an impressive round-of-16 performance, securing a win by fall in 2:08 after a close 12-9 decision. Although she fell short in the quarterfinals, the Little Ferry, N.J. native continued to push forward in the consolation bracket. She advanced to the semifinals with a quick pin in 1:39 but ultimately lost a hard-fought match by an 8-4 decision. In a rematch with her round-of-16 opponent, Zeppetelli finished strong, securing seventh place with a decisive pin in 3:33.

Freshman Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) competed in the 117-pound weight class, where she fell in the round of 32 with a tough 10-9 decision. However, she bounced back in the consolation bracket, receiving a bye in the round of 32 before advancing to the semifinals with a dominant fall in just 1:07. Unfortunately, she was eliminated after a loss in the semifinals.
