Women’s Soccer Set for ECAC Quarterfinal Matchup Against Juniata

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The No. 4 New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's soccer team will face off against No. 5 Juniata in the quarterfinals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament on Saturday, November 16. The game will take place at 5:00 p.m. in Madison, N.J., and will be streamed live at https://gomacsports.tv/fdudevils/.

NJCU earned its spot in the ECAC Tournament after finishing the regular season with a 6-5-8 overall record and a 2-4-3 mark in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). This marks the Gothic Knights' second consecutive appearance in the tournament, having made it to the semifinals last year before suffering a loss to No. 1 Hartford. Juniata enters the tournament with an 8-7-3 overall record and a 2-6-1 finish in the Landmark Conference. The Eagles are making their first ECAC Tournament appearance since 2017, when they were eliminated in the semifinals by Albright.

The matchup between NJCU and Juniata will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Leading the charge for NJCU is fifth-year forward Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret), who has a team-high 19 points, including 8 goals and 3 assists. Brites ranks sixth in the NJAC for both goals and points. Junior Nyrohah Alvarenga (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech), an All-NJAC honorable mention selection, has also been a key contributor with 13 points (5 goals, 3 assists). Alvarenga ranks 7th in shots and 10th in shots on goal in the NJAC. In goal, Sophia Mannino (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township), a junior All-NJAC second-team honoree, has been outstanding with an .824 save percentage, a 1.18 goals-against average, and 5 shutouts on the season. Mannino is also ranked third in the NJAC in saves per game (5.24).

For Juniata, Savanna Murray, a junior forward, leads the team with 15 points, including 6 goals and 3 assists. The Eagles also rely on Alyssa Bui, a senior midfielder, and Amelia Yordy, a junior forward, who have combined for 16 points (4 goals, 8 assists) this season. In goal, senior goalkeeper Sarah Betts has posted a 1.48 goals-against average and a .767 save percentage, along with 3 shutouts on the year.

The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal will advance to the semifinals, where they will face No. 1 seed Hartford on Saturday, November 23. The other quarterfinal matchup features No. 6 seed FDU-Florham hosting No. 3 Pittsburgh-Greensburg on Saturday, November 16. The winner of that game will move on to play No. 2 Springfield next weekend.
