Gothic Knights Finish Sixth at the NJAC Championships

Jezena Aponte Secured a Top-20 Finish in the 6K

EWING, N.J. - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's cross country team finished sixth out of eight teams at the NJAC Championship held at the College of New Jersey on Saturday, Nov. 2. Sophomore Jezena Aponte (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) led the team with a strong performance, securing 16th place out of 111 runners in the 6K with a time of 23:44.6, marking her fifth Top-20 finish this season and a new program record.

Senior Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) followed with a time of 29:33.6, placing 88th. Freshman Saniya Chappius (Millville, N.J./Millville Senior) achieved a personal best, finishing 90th in 30:03.1. Freshman Asia Speights (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Township) and junior Raven Orange (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) were close behind, finishing 92nd and 93rd, respectively, with times of 30:45.7.

Juniors Tonna Ogina (North Brunswick, N.J./Highland Park) and Yoselyn Romero (East Orange, N.J./Kearny) rounded out the scoring for the Gothic Knights, placing 98th and 101st with times of 32:36.8 and 35:38.2, respectively. All athletes achieved personal-best times.

The Gothic Knights will next compete at the NCAA Metro Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 16, starting at 11:00 a.m. hosted by Stockton.
