Women's Soccer Season Ends in the ECAC Semifinal With 5-0 Loss to Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT - The New Jersey City University women's soccer season ended Saturday morning in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Semifinal to top-seeded Hartford, 5-0.

NJCU (7-6-8) finished the season with a record above .500 for the second year in a row for the first time since the Gothic Knights accomplished that feat back in 2009-11. As a team, NJCU tallied four shots, with three of them coming off of the foot of Gineth Arias Martinez (Soacha Cundinamarca, Colombia/Institución Educativa Leon XII). Between the pipes, Sophia Mannino (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) made eight saves in the loss. Hartford (15-3-2) used 18 shots to score five goals in the win. Imani Jenkins paced the team with six shots, putting four on frame along with two goals and an assist.

Hartford opened the scoring in the 24th minute via a Jenkins goal. Following the goal, Hartford sent five shots toward goal but couldn't break through for the remainder of the first half. NJCU's offense was stymied in the first half as they were held to one shot.

The second half did not bode well for the Gothic Knights as Hartford scored four second-half goals, starting with their first of the half in the 54th minute. Three minutes later, Hartford found the back of the net again to take a 3-0 lead. Hartford's 4th and 5th tally came in short order, hitting the back of the net 45 seconds apart. Sarah Reyes (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) nearly put a tally on the board for the Gothic Knights in the 70th minute with a shot off of the woodwork. That chance was the last opportunity for NJCU as its season ended on the road.
