Hunter Edges Men's Wrestling 27-24 in Close Match

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's wrestling team suffered a narrow defeat to Hunter College, losing 27-24 on Friday, Dec. 6, at Hunter. NJCU's record now stands at 5-7, while Hunter secured its first win of the season, moving to 1-4.

The match began with a strong performance from freshman Dominic Terracciano (Keansburg, N.J./Keansburg), who won his 125-pound match with a quick 31-second fall over Michael Douglas. Junior Lucas Torre (Point Pleasant, N.J./Brick Memorial) extended the lead with a 16-9 victory in the 133-pound bout, followed by junior Andy Beras (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) securing a forfeit victory at 141 pounds. NJCU led 15-0 early on.

Hunter responded with a pin by Jayden Medina over sophomore Dean Costantino (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) in the 149-pound match. NJCU rebounded with junior Zack Vera's (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) dominant 21-3 technical fall over Martin Palomegue in the 157-pound class. Senior Michael Cross also contributed with a 19-8 major decision victory at 165 pounds, giving NJCU a 24-6 advantage.

However, Hunter mounted a comeback by taking advantage of forfeits in the 174, 184, and 194-pound weight classes, tying the match at 24-24. The deciding bout came at 285 pounds, where Hunter's Dane Henry defeated NJCU's senior Jayden Reyes 2-0, securing the win for Hunter.
