Women's Wrestling Earns Strong Finish at New Standard Corporation Invitational

Frezzo Claims First, Zeppettelli Takes Fourth, and Beck Secures Sixth in Strong Individual Performances

YORK, PA. - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team had a strong showing at the New Standard Corporation Invitational, hosted by York College, finishing in ninth place overall, of 14 teams, with 10 points. Three Gothic Knights earned top placements in their respective weight classes.

Senior Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) dominated the 110-pound weight class, securing first place with an impressive series of victories. She received a bye in the round of 16 before winning her next two matches by technical fall—one in just 25 seconds and another in 1:59. In the final, Frezzo faced Gisele Ramirez from York College, clinching the victory with a technical fall (12-2) in 2:56 to claim the gold.

Senior Kayla Zeppetelli (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park) competed in the 138-pound class, where she made her way to the semifinals with a pair of quick falls, one in 1:47 and another in 58 seconds. Although she lost by technical fall (10-0) in the semifinals, Zeppetelli bounced back in the consolation tournament, securing a pin in 1:24. However, she ultimately fell in the third-place match, finishing in fourth after a fall in 2:33.

Freshman Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) also had an impressive showing in her collegiate debut in the 117-pound weight class. After a loss in the round of 16, Beck showed resilience, winning her next two matches by pin—one in 3:21 and another in 2:18. She earned a close 9-8 decision over teammate Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) in the consolation semifinals but fell in the fifth-place bout, ultimately finishing sixth.
