Women's Bowling Wins Five at Mount Shootout, Including Upset of #25 Niagara

Hoff Shines on Day Two with Five 200-Plus Games

MOUNT JOY, Pa. — The New Jersey City University women's bowling team competed at the sixth annual Mount Shootout this weekend, Friday-Sunday, Feb. 9-11, hosted by Mount Saint Mary's University (Md.) at Clearview Lanes. The Gothic Knights picked up five victories over the three days, including a big-time win over #25-ranked Niagara University on Friday.

On day one, which was the five-game baker total pinfall format, the Gothic Knights (27-40) started off the weekend with a 743-721 victory over Coppin State University. They also closed out the day with the upset of Niagara, 958-942.

Day two, which consisted of five traditional matches, began with a strong 908-875 win over Chestnut Hill College. NJCU also took down Norfolk State University 923-834 in the third match of the day. Senior Rebecca Hoff (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) was a standout all day, bowling five games of at least 203, topping out at 235. She bowled a 211 in the win over CHC, followed by a 203 against host and #13-ranked Mount Saint Mary. Hoff's 235 came in the win over NSU and she then bowled another 203 against Howard University. She closed out her day with a 225 in the loss to #RV Mercyhurst University.

Senior captain Meagan Raimondo (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) was strong, as well, averaging a 174.6 with a high of 194 against Chestnut Hill. Senior Samantha Szymanski (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) averaged a 170.0 with a high of 212 against Norfolk State. Senior Rebecca Kain (Keansburg, N.J./Keansburg) averaged a 160.4 with a high of 192 against Chestnut Hill. Junior Anna Trachsler (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) bowled three games, with a high of 162 against CHC, while rookie Sofia Ocasio (Union City, N.J./Jose Marti STEM Academy) bowled twice, including a 163 against Norfolk State.

The third and final day saw NJCU nearly go 2-1, with another win over Copping State and a near-victory against Howard, taking both two seven games in the win and loss, respectively.
