The New Jersey City University men's and women's track teams sent contingents back to Ocean Breeze in Staten Island today, Feb. 23, to compete in the FastTrack Last Chance Invitational. Only two Gothic Knights competed in today's meet on the women's team, while eight on the men's side received marks.
For the women, freshman distance runnerÂ
Jezena Aponte (Jersey City, N.J., Snyder), fresh off of debuting for the Green and Gold in the NJAC Indoor Championships, set a new program record in the 1000m, finishing with a time of 3:16.32 for fifth place in the event. Additionally, sophomore throwerÂ
Lucy Pelaez (Jersey City, N.J., Snyder)Â reached a new personal record in the shot put, reaching 7.76m, eclipsing her previous personal best set in the NJAC Indoor Championships.
For the men, freshman throwerÂ
Ethan Graham (Woodbridge, N.J., John F. Kennedy Memorial)Â recorded a new collegiate best of 8.89m on his first throw in the shot put. In the 60m dash,Â
Juan Mercedes Cruz (El Seybo, Dominican Republic, Manville)Â finished in sixth overall, clocking 7.24, just shy of his best time as a Gothic Knight.

Indoor season is winding down, as the Gothic Knights will compete in their final meet before the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships. They are set to travel to Rochester, N.Y. next weekend, March 1st-2nd, for the AARTFC Indoor Championships at Nazareth College.
